QUARANTINE

The word quarantine dates back to the middles ages, the practice of quarantine as we know it, began during the 14th century in efforts to protect coastal cities from plague epidemics. The word Quarantine derives from the Italian word quaranta giorni, which means 40 days.

Surviving Quarantine; I honestly have no idea what day it is as far as Quarantine goes but it has definitely been a journey thus far. The first week of this outbreak I was pretty upset because I was looking forward to heading to Mexico for vacation, to get away for awhile and just relax. As reality set in, I finally realized that I would not be traveling anytime soon due to this mess. Then once I heard that all film/tv productions were also going to be on hold until further notice, it really made me upset. I was already being forced to postpone a trip that was planned a year ago and now I can’t go to auditions; What a bummer. For about three days straight, I was trying to figure out what I could do to pass time. Of course there are a handful of things that I know I wanted to do but never had the time because I was always “too busy”, I still just couldn’t quit figure out why this had to happen now.

I worked on building my website, something that I kept putting on hold because I never really had time to sit and develop it. And yes I could have paid someone to make it, but I just wanted it to be something that I completed on my own. So I set a goal to finish it by the end of March. While creating my website I soon realized that I had so many things that I used to do before I started acting and modeling that I had neglected. My mom suggested I make the family face masks. I pushed it off for a week lol. I learned how to sew at an early age and would create from time to time but always stopped because of how time consuming it can be. Sewing is kind of like riding a bike, once you get the hang of the basics, you can pretty much make anything. lol So long story short, my mom kept asking me if I made the masks yet almost everyday and I would say ” oh I haven’t found the right pattern or Im almost done. I literally used three different techniques before I found the perfect pattern that I wanted to use.

A week and a half later and I’ve already made close to 80 face masks. I have also been submitting for acting auditions virtually. Thankfully casting directors have been so generous; giving us (creatives) the opportunity to self submit for open calls. So now Im at peace and kinda enjoying this Quarantine Life. It has given me the time to reflect and enjoy my own company. Well, technically I’ve been socially distancing for awhile now, but you get the point. lol Now go find something that you are passionate about or something that you’ve always wanted to do and GO DO IT!! You never know it might change your life for the better.
